The chorus of voices calling for transparency and justice for Dante Parker, killed by the San Bernardino County sheriffs in Victorville, has just grown to include the High Desert chapter of the NAACP. Throughout the country defunct NAACP chapters are reopening and new chapters are forming, and Victorville is no exception. The family joined the press conference held this morning. CopWatch will be hosting a protest/vigil for Dante Parker this Wednesday, August 20 at 6:PM outside the Victorville substation of the San Bernardino County Sheriff. Fortunately, we are not alone in addressing this egregious crime. Earl Ofari Hutchinson's group, the Los Angeles Urban Policy Round Table has also made a forceful statement about what they would like to see happen in the case. Here is an article about it:

Redlands on the defensive after receiving MRAP

This is an important trend going on nationwide, although much of it is going on under the radar. It has to do with both the militarization of local law enforcement agencies, as well as with creating and expanding domestic markets for war materiel no longer needed abroad with the deintensification of ground combat in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, due to drone warfare and other factors. "Bring the War Home," so to speak. Redlands is one of the local cities to obtain a military-grade MRAP (Mine Resistant/Ambush Protected) vehicle--basically a tank.
