We weren't sure if the mainstream media were going to cover Tusday's action, because the only journalist present there was David Allen, and he is much more of a "feel-good" author of fluff pieces than a beat reporter. But apparently this article was published yesterday, although I did not see it in the print edition. Here is a link and some of the text:

ONTARIO >> The family of a man shot to death by Ontario police hours before Mother’s Day gathered around the lectern at Tuesday’s City Council meeting in a show of solidarity.
Nearly 30 people stood together and six spoke about Jose Raul Herrera, 59, whom police said was brandishing a knife in the May 10 encounter.
“We’re not against the police,” Martin Herrera, a son, told council members during the public comment period. “But there needs to be some kind of justification for this.”
He continued: “We lost our father. Father’s Day is around the corner. We’re not going to be able to have that. We’re going to be grieving.”
Family members phoned 911 for medical aid when Herrera, who had passed out from drinking, woke up acting belligerent. Police responded along with medics and said Herrera cursed them and approached an officer within arm’s length while holding a large knife. One fired a gun and another a Taser. Herrera died at the scene.
Family members said the slight Herrera weighed under 150 pounds and could have been subdued without deadly force.
Attorney Luis Carrillo asked the council to authorize release of the police-recorded video of the encounter. A still photo from the video has already been released.
“If the video shows a man charging officers with a knife, you would want the public to see that,” Carrillo said, adding that a video that shows Herrera not attacking police would provide “solace” to the family about his final moments.
A somber Mayor Paul Leon limited his comments as the case is under litigation.
“We’re really bound to stay quiet until the court case is settled,” Leon said. “But I do know that there’s nobody happy. There’s nobody happy.”
