Colton police involved in fatal shooting

COLTON >> Police shot and killed a man this morning in front of a business in the 2300 block of East Steel Road.

Police received a call at 7:44 a.m. about a man with a gun at a truck stop at the corner of Hunts and Hospitality lanes, in Colton, according to Detective Ray Mendez, Colton police spokesman..

Police found a man they believe was a suspect, a struggle ensued, and the officer felt in fear of his life, Mendez said.

An officer fired his service weapon at the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the location. A handgun was retrieved at the scene.

As per standard procedure, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives are investigating the case.
