SB Sheriff responsible for crash that killed Vanessa Rosales

This one comes from a sheriff's press release. Haven't seen it in the press. Apparently the pig was hauling a young person to juvy when he crashed into a car and killed the passenger. Here is the content of the press release:

On Sunday, September 9, 2012, at approximately 8:00 p.m., a deputy assigned to the Adelanto Sheriff's Station was transporting a juvenile suspect to the Apple Valley Juvenile Detention Facility for booking. While in route to the facility, the patrol unit collided with the rear of a Honda Accord being driven by Immysha Smith. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound on Air Expressway west of Village Drive in the City of Victorville. Following the impact, the Honda Accord swerved into the westbound lanes of Air Expressway and struck a Mercedes that was traveling westbound.

Smith was transported to Victor Valley Hospital where she received treatment for minor injuries. A passenger in Smith's vehicle, identified as Vanessa Rosales, was transported to Victor Valley Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. A juvenile passenger in Smith's vehicle was transported by helicopter to Loma Linda University where he is receiving treatment for moderate injuries. The driver of the Mercedes, identified as Jennifer Tompkins, was tranported to St. Mary Medical Center where she received treatment for minor injuries. The passenger in the patrol unit was transported to St. Mary Medical Center where she received treatment for minor injuries. The deputy was treated on scene for minor injury.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Region II Major Accident Investigation Team. Any witnesses to this collision are urged to contact Sergeant Rod MacDonald, Deputy Bryan Zierdt or Deputy Jason Grantham at the Apple Valley Sheriff's Station.
