Upland considering police lapel cameras

Throughout the region, departments are either implementing body cameras, considering it, or being pressured to do so. Upland is the latest jurisdiction to officially consider requiring cameras as part of an officer's uniform. While remaining skeptical, we do hope that the added scrutiny will lead to a decrease in the sorts of shootings like the one Upland PD committed against Christian Rodriguez. Complaint against RPD Chief Sergio Diaz SUSTAINED

In an extremely rare move, an internal investigation into misconduct by RPD Chief Sergio Diaz was found to have merit.

Diaz made political threats against a former candidate for public office, according to the complaint. The chief has apparently admitted wrongdoing. No disciplinary measure was mentioned in the press reports about the situation.

Herrera family to rally, address Ontario city council at Tuesday meeting

CopWatch IE has received advance notice that the Herrera family of Ontario, who tragically lost their father Jose to an act of police violence on May 9, will be holding a rally prior to the next Ontario city council meeting, which will be held at 5:30 PM at Ontario City Hall, located at 303 East B St in Ontario, CA 91764. The rally will be followed by participation in the council meeting, which begins at 6:30.

They are asking us to bring out our people to support the family in their quest for justice!

CWIE campaign: Lapel cameras for officers!

The Inland Empire has actually been leading the way when it comes to equipping officers with cameras. Rialto was the first city to require that officers document their interactions with community members on video. The practice was the subject of a major study by the Washington DC-based Police Foundation (which also has many IE ties), which acclaimed the practice.

SBPD officer Jose Jesus Perez convicted of on-duty rapes

It looks like these incidents were happening back in 2012 or perhaps sooner, although I don't recall hearing anything about them at that time. The good thing is that the department actually took the complaint seriously and passed it on to the feds, unlike what normally happens. Wishing health and speedy recovery and healing for the survivors of these horrible assaults. Here's some coverage:
