Riverside man shot and killed by police identified--and other information revealed

So...now it turns out that it wasn't a "routine traffic stop" after all, but a deliberate and planned operation. Cops can't even get their own stories straight.

This looks like a "routine traffic stop" (AKA predatory patrolling by armed agents of the police state) gone deadly. They are accusing the victim of having a weapon, but like always, we reserve judgment until more facts come out. Here's an article from TV station ABC:

Complaint against RPD Chief Sergio Diaz SUSTAINED

In an extremely rare move, an internal investigation into misconduct by RPD Chief Sergio Diaz was found to have merit.

Diaz made political threats against a former candidate for public office, according to the complaint. The chief has apparently admitted wrongdoing. No disciplinary measure was mentioned in the press reports about the situation.

CopWatch IE protest for lapel cameras

Ever since the numbers came in from Rialto, this idea of police cameras has been intriguing us. Some folks love the idea and think all cops should be filmed at all times, which is understandable. Others have brought up concerns about police and their cameras being used for extrajudicial surveillance, an intrusion on the right to due process. Others have questioned where the demand for cameras comes from. In Rialto it was certainly the result of scandal, and taken advantage of by shrewd police politickers.
