RPD strikes and injures blind man with cruiser

rQRo's picture

What was it, about a year ago that an RPD officer struck an elderly woman who was crossing the street in the Casablanca neighborhood? And now we have another officer-involved collision, this time with a blind man? These officers for as much as they talk about "public safety," continue to reveal their hypocrisy every time they injure another community member through their negligence. We don't have much information here, but we will be posting as more becomes available.

Effectiveness of police commissions undermined by cops

rQRo's picture

Following up on our preliminary investigations into police commissions and their effectiveness in deterring police violence, we want to publish an excerpt from an email that was forwarded to us by a community supporter that talks about the make-up of the CPRC in Riverside. Some parts of the email that are not relevant to the discussion or that would unnecessarily reveal the identities of the correspondents has been redacted.

Jury clears city and officer in fatal shooting of David Ledezma

rQRo's picture

At the beginning of January 2012, the RPD shot and killed David Ledezma, who they accused of trying to kill them because he was drunk and waving around a length of pipe. He was no threat to them whatsoever, and the pigs are full of shit. This follow-up article came out in February, but we hadn't been able to post it up until now. Rest in peace, Mr. Ledezma. Justice for David Ledezma!

RAPJA protest against police brutality

rQRo's picture

This past Saturday, March 29, the Riverside Area Peace and Justice Alliance, or RAPJA for short, held a demonstration at the corner of University and Kansas on the East Side of Riverside. The intersection is the location of Bobby Bonds Park, which is home to the Cesar Chavez Community Center--fitting, since yesterday was Cesar Chavez Day and the new Cesar Chavez film just came out, which shows just how the capitalist growers use police violence as a means of humiliation, social control, and to break the union.

Riverside police shoot and kill unidentified man, 39

rQRo's picture

This story is still unfolding. The police are accusing the victim of having used a vehicle (which they claim was stolen) to ram a police vehicle. They call this circumstance "using a deadly weapon (i.e. the car) against police," which they feel gives them license to shoot, regardless of their distance from the victim, the direction of travel of the car, etc. We have seen them using this excuse to shoot people who are using vehicles to flee from them. Many unanswered questions here.
