RPD shoots at (and misses) driver of police vehicle

rQRo's picture

Not much information here--probably because the police are embarrassed about getting their car stolen and having nothing to show for it. But they did fire a weapon at someone, and it doesn't appear to have been because they were in fear of their lives, which is the only circumstance in which they are supposed to be permitted to use deadly force. Here's an article from the P-E (the video is just an interview with reporter Brian Rokos--it contains only slightly more detail than the text article):

Victim unarmed in Temecula shooting, caught on tape

rQRo's picture

We highlighted this incident shortly after it occurred, which was while the Chris Dorner saga was still unfolding. Fortunately, one of the independent journalists was able to dig into it a little bit.

John Armes, 29, shot and killed by prison guards (?) in Temecula

rQRo's picture

This is a police shooting that is a little bit out of the ordinary. It's not clear what all the circumstances were, but one man is dead. Apparently he was out of prison on parole, and was being pursued by the state's "fugitive apprehension team" when he was shot. I found a press release from the sheriff and a coroner's report:

Indio PD shoots and injures Guadalupe Rivera, 32

rQRo's picture

Another police shooting of somebody known to have mental illness. It looks like this brother is going to survive. How many police shot him? How many times? Why? What happened? The people have a right to know.

Barstow officer Andrew Buesa cleared in shooting of Eddie Varela

rQRo's picture

This was an incident up in Barstow from last March. Intervening in a domestic situation, Officer Buesa shot and seriously injured the victim, Eddie Varela. What's worse, first they tried to charge Varela with attempted murder--then they dropped the charges down to assault with a deadly weapon and gave him a bunch of time. The story is published by the Desert Dispatch on their website:
