Last Pomona PD victim identified: John Arganda, 43

It took more than a week, but the name of the last brother murdered by Pomona PD has been "released." Eventually, things come to light--they just get there much faster when the community organizes and pushes for it.

And while article comments usually must be taken with a grain of salt, it's worth republishing this comment that appeared at the foot of this article:

This happened at our friends rental property. Mom called the police to calm down her 35 yr old drunk son, and ended up watching her son geting shot to death in front of her.

We had mentioned on this blog that the family and supporters of Andy Avila were planning on holding a demonstration this past Sunday and encouraged our supporters to attend. Not many members of CWIE were able to attend, but some did, and there is even a report, with photos, in the independent media:

Remembering Andres Avila, 26, murdered by Pomona PD

rQRo's picture

This was an incident that happened on October 16, 2011. Avila was beaten by Pomona police officer O'Malley, and filed a complaint about the incident. Shortly afterwards, he was sitting in a car with a woman in an alley at 8:30 in the morning. He was shot by a Pomona PD officer (not O'Malley). He was unarmed. The results of the investigation, if any, have yet to be released.

CWIE editorial: Cops, Elections, and the Subversion of Democracy

rQRo's picture

At CopWatch IE, we have been critical of the police for numerous reasons: For excessive use of force, for lack of transparency in accountability proceedings, for lies and coverups, for suppressing free speech, dissent, and reform efforts, among others.
